Brooklyn, NY – A Midwood man is recovering from minor injuries sustained after being assaulted early this morning by two unknown suspects in his place of residence which is also home to a local Chabad center.
Police said that the unidentified 56 year old victim was sleeping at 5 AM this morning on the third floor of Bais Menachem Mendel, 1703 Avenue J, when the robbery took place.
The two suspects are believed to have used a ladder to enter the building, located at the corner of E 17th Street, through a broken second floor window.
The victim told police that the two suspects demanded his personal property and struck him on top of his head with a garden tool, causing a minor laceration.
Preliminary NYPD reports describe the suspects only as black men, and police said that they fled with the scene with the victim’s property in an unknown direction.
Councilman David Greenfield said that the man was the caretaker of the facility and offered a $1,000 reward leading to the arrest of the suspects.
Greenfield said that the fact that the robbery took place on Pesach was particularly disturbing.
“It more important now than ever that we unite as a community and find the hateful criminals who did this,” said Greenfield.
