Three people were killed and five others injured Tuesday morning in an accident that involved two tractor-trailers and two passenger cars on the Cross Bronx Expressway, according to reports.
The crash occurred about 5:45 a.m. on the eastbound expressway at Webster Avenue.
Three adults in one of the cars were pronounced dead at the scene, WNBC reported.
Two other people were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in serious condition. Two others suffered minor injuries, the station reported.
The cause of the crash was not immediately available.
All lanes have been shut down and delays of 80 minutes were reported at the inbound George Washington Bridge, WNBC reported.
Traffic also was backed up on the westbound Cross Bronx Expressway.
Another accident at the Sheridan Expressway also caused traffic problems.
