Donald Trump, Dr. Ben Carson To Receive Secret Service Protection

Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ben Carson are expected to receive Secret Service protection, according to reports.

Over the weekend, Newsmax cited a “source close to the agency’s plans” to report that “two dozen agents will be assigned to each candidate.

Fox News reported Monday that Carson “met with the U.S. Secret Service’s Dignitary Protection Division to request protection for the candidate as threats against him have grown.”

Newsmax also reported: “The source said there was evidence that home-grown terrorists might be targeting a major political candidate like Carson. The Secret Service approached the Carson campaign to offer federal protection.”

National polls show Trump and Carson, neither of whom have ever been elected to office before, leading the pack of Republicans running for president.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton already has Secret Service protection, the result of being the former first lady.

The agency, in the past, has been willing to provide Secret Service to candidates facing threats, including Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Herman Cain during the 2012 race.
