New York – Orthodox Ramapo Town Board Candidate Has Criminal Past; Admits To Living Out Of State

Ramapo, NY – Controversy has arisen around a Democratic candidate for the Ramapo Town Board after he admitted that he lives in New Jersey and has a criminal history, including a 2004 federal conviction for mail fraud.

LOHUD.com reports that 70 year-old Samuel Tress was initially vague when asked about his current residency, stating that he resides at a rented Monsey apartment, but later admitted to living in New Jersey.

“I’m not denying that I live in New Jersey,” Tress admitted, while adding “I am most of the week in Monsey.”

Tress was also vague when asked about past run-ins with the law, stating that he didn’t “remember” whether or not he pleaded guilty in a mail fraud case brought against by the feds in 2004.

“I don’t remember if I actually pleaded guilty,” Tress offered.

But court records show that Tress did in fact plead guilty in December of 2004 to falsely assuming an identity to secure a mortgage on a Spring Valley home, resulting in a three-year sentence of supervised probation.
