A startled police horse threw a cop to the street and ran riderless through Times Square, dragging its the officer a short way.
Gunny, a black stallion, reared up on his hind legs when a loud noise spooked him, witnesses said, throwing his rider to the ground on 48th Street near Times Square around 7:25 p.m.
The officer eventually let go after Gunny dragged him about 15 feet. He was treated for minor injuries at Bellevue.
Gunny trotted back toward a nearby garage where police horses rest during shifts.
“He got back safe into the garage and walked right up to the other horse and just nuzzled him,” said Ace Guzman, a security guard at the lot. “It was amazing.”
