Ultra-Orthodox Man Goes Berserk On EL AL Flight Over ‘Immodest Movie’

An Israeli passenger responded violently on an EL AL plane from Poland on Wednesday over what he said was an “immodest movie” that was playing on the in-flight entertainment system, Channel 2 reported.

The 36-year-old man, who is a resident of Beit Shemesh, caused damage to equipment on the plane, according to the report.

He was apprehended upon landing at Ben Gurion Airport International Airport.

Last month, an Austrian Airlines flight from Vienna to New York was forced to make an emergency landing in Canada due to an in-flight disturbance caused by an Israeli passenger.

Mayhem broke out during the flight when a passenger was caught smoking in the bathroom. When the passenger who appeared to be intoxicated, was discovered by members of the flight crew, he became unruly and began to hurl insults at the flight attendants.

An Israeli man on an El Al flight to Israel went on a rampage on the plane because he objected to an “immodest” in-flight movie, according to reports.

The 36-year-old passenger, a resident of the city of Beit Shemesh, was on the Israeli national carrier’s aircraft on its flight from Poland on Wednesday when he reacted violently, Channel 2 of Israel reported.

The name of the movie wasn’t immediately available.

The man, who lives in an ultra-Orthodox neighborhood, was arrested upon landing at Ben Gurion International Airport.

“In the course of an El Al flight from Warsaw to Tel Aviv, the passenger ran wild and damaged the plane’s equipment,” El Al told Arutz 7 in a statement.

“El Al will not tolerate violent behavior of any kind in the course of its flights, and therefore the police were called.”

In November, El Al said it would investigate an incident in which a movie on a flight from Moscow to Tel Aviv was stopped after 20 minutes because of complaints from ultra-Orthodox passengers.

A flight attendant told passengers asking why the Hollywood romantic comedy-drama “Aloha” was stopped that “there’s a majority of haredim (ultra-Orthodox) on board and in such cases the company’s policy is not to annoy them,” the Israeli Haaretz reported.

The flight’s service manager told irate passengers that it is the airline’s policy not to screen films when there is an ultra-Orthodox majority on board a flight.

El Al has special flights for the ultra-Orthodox to selected destinations – but the manager acknowledged that the flight was a regular one.
