Nashat Milhem, the Israeli Arab who went on a shooting spree on Tel Aviv’s Dizengoff Street last week and subsequently managed to elude law enforcement since then, has reportedly been shot dead near a building in the Wadi Ara region.
Milhem was holed up in a building near his hometown of Arara when security forces tracked him down. He was killed in an exchange of gunfire.
The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) obtained intelligence indicating that Milhem was hiding in an area not far from his home village of Arara.
The security forces arrested a number of suspects earlier on Friday and extracted from them information regarding the precise whereabouts of the fugitive gunman.
Once they learned of his location, paramilitary commando and SWAT team units surrounded Milhem’s hiding place and engaged him in a gun battle, resulting in his death.
Milhem has been Israel’s most wanted fugitive since last Friday, when he shot dead two people and wounded seven others in one of Tel Aviv’s busiest thoroughfares.
Now Israeli security forces will turn their attention to questioning a number of individuals who have been arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting Milhem.
