The wife of a state witness was murdered in Be’er Sheva Monday evening after her car came under a hail of gunfire.
The state witness is currently serving a jail term in connection with a domestic violence case, a police source said.
About six months ago, when the husband was in jail, the victim lodged a complaint against him saying that he harassed her over the phone and threatened her life.
According to the complaint, in one call he threatened that “the children will remain orphans.” An indictment was filed against him based on the complaint.
Police said the woman, in her thirties, was shot in her upper body while driving on Jerusalem Blvd.
in the Negev city at about 6:30 P.M. They said the shooting was most likely not terror-related, but Chief Superintendent Moshe Levy of the police said all possible angles were being investigated. A large police contingent was dispatched in the search for the perpetrator.
The woman’s three children were in the car with her at the time. A man who lives in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred said he had passed the woman minutes before and noticed her and her children listening to music. “After I was further away, I heard five or six shots and within a minute, the police were already there,” he said.
Shaked Levy, a medic with the Magen David Adom medical service, said when the ambulance arrived at the scene, the woman was unconscious, had no pulse and wasn’t breathing. After administering first aid, the ambulance crew took her to the hospital in “very serious condition,” where she died.
Due to the presence of the woman’s three young children in the car, social welfare authorities were alerted and sent someone to assist them.
