Three police officers from the Yasam riot-control unit were wounded this afternoon (Saturday), near the Damascus Gate of Jerusalem’s Old City.
Two of the officers noticed the attacker as he approached them and demanded that he identify himself. Instead of cooperating, the terrorist pulled out a knife and stabbed them.
Other officers at the location opened fire on the terrorist and killed him. However, a stray shot also wounded a third Yasam member.
The two stabbing victims were taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital and are described as being in moderate condition. The third casualty is in Sha’arei Tzedek Hospital, where doctors say that his condition is very severe.
In addition, two Jewish men about 60 years old were stabbed by a 19-year-old Arab terrorist this morning. The incident occurred on Hanevi’im Street, near the Old City. The assailant was also shot and killed by police before he could escape.
