A handcuffed 18-year-old man who escaped custody for two hours in upper Manhattan on New Year’s Day had a getaway car a marked NYPD cruiser, police said.
The teen managed to drive off in the squad car after two cops stuffed him into the back and briefly stepped away around 2 a.m. Sunday along W. 158 St. near the Henry Hudson Parkway.
The missing cop car which lacked a partition — was found a half-hour later 13 miles north along Saw Mill River Road in Yonkers early Sunday, police said.
The runaway suspect was apprehended nearby around 4 a.m., cops added.
It’s unclear what sparked the initial arrest in Washington Heights and if he was handcuffed when captured. The suspect was not immediately identified.
