Airports Worldwide on High Alert After Belgium Attacks

In the wake of deadly attacks on a Belgian airport and the Brussels subway system, security forces are on high alert at public transportation stations across Europe and North America.

The New York Police Department is ratcheting up its presence at airports, train stations, bridges, and tunnels, NBC has reported.

In the nation’s capital, Washington D.C. transit authorities have also indicated they are on high alert at public transportation hubs around the district.

State officials in Finland, Denmark, and Sweden announced similar measures were being adopted in their respective countries.

The Belga news agency has reported that Belgium is also enacting emergency security measures around the country’s two active nuclear facilities.

Israeli officials told Israel Army Radio to expect disruptions of travel to Europe, warning travelers to check with their airlines for updates.

A reporter for Sky News Australia wrote that in light of the attacks, Israel had grounded all flights to Europe, though this report has yet to be confirmed by an official source.
