The FBI and police in South Carolina searched through a field and nearby woods on Friday and Saturday, hunting for evidence connected to the disappearance of Brittanee Drexel.
FBI Supervisory Agent Don Wood would only say that the FBI was conducting “investigative activities” with police in Georgetown County, about Drexel, a 17-year-old from Chili, who disappeared in South Carolina in 2009. Her body has not been found.
The search continued on Saturday. The FBI expects to keep digging and searching on Sunday.
Don Wood, a lawyer for the Drexel family, confirmed to WPDE, a South Carolina television station, that the FBI had told the family the search was connected to Drexel’s disappearance.
Georgetown County is north of McClellanville, South Carolina, where Drexel’s telephone last produced a signal.
At a news conference in McClellanville in June, authorities said they believe Drexel to be dead.
