Brig. Gen. (res.) Shai Brosh was named Tuesday as the former Shayetet 13 commander who was arrested earlier this week in connection to the “submarine affair” involving crimes suspected by police to have been committed around the purchase of three submarines from the German company ThyssenKrupp – including bribery, fraud, tax evasion and money laundering.
Israel’s elite naval commando unit Shayetet 13 was behind the assassination of Syrian General Muhammad Suleiman in 2008, The Intercept reports, citing classified NSA documents. According to the report, the American intelligence agency learned of the operation by monitoring communications signals of the Israel Defense Forces.
