Orange County, NY – State police say a motorist has been struck by a vehicle and killed after bolting from a trooper who had pulled the driver over on the Thruway in New York City’s northern suburbs.
Police say a trooper pulled over a vehicle around 5 p.m. Wednesday in Interstate 87’s northbound lanes in the Orange County town of Woodbury, just north of Exit 16 in Rockland County.
Officials say the trooper attempted to take the driver into custody, but the person began to resist arrest and ran away. Troopers say the motorist ran into the northbound lanes and was hit by a passing vehicle.
The northbound lanes were closed for about four hours while police investigated. Traffic was diverted off the highway at Exit 16 during the closure.
No other information has been released Thursday morning.
Witnesses are asked to call state police at (845) 782-8311.
