Lebanon claims that an Israel Navy ship briefly entered Lebanese waters at 1:03 a.m. Sunday morning.
“An Israeli enemy gunboat breached the Lebanese territorial waters off Ras el-Naqoura at 1:03 a.m. Sunday, to a distance of 160 meters, and then left at 1:05 a.m. heading back in the direction of the occupied Palestinian territories,” a Lebanese Army communiqué indicated.
“The incident is being followed-up in coordination with the UNIFIL Forces,” the Army communiqué added, according to the Lebanon’s official National News Agency.
Israeli gunboats violated Lebanon’s territorial waters three times on Friday, according to a Lebanese army statement.
“Mini-violations” of Lebanese waters appear to be a common occurrence, at least if one is to believe Lebanese reports.
On May 1, Lebanon’s army claimed that “at 8:50 am, a military vessel belonging to the Israeli enemy breached Lebanon’s territorial waters off Ras al-Naqoura by 300 meters before leaving at 9:00 am towards the territorial waters of occupied Palestine.”
“And at 10:07 am, a similar vessel violated Lebanon’s territorial waters by 278 meters off Ras al-Naqoura before leaving at 10:12 am,” it added.
A third Israeli gunboat penetrated 260 meters into the Lebanese waters off the same area at 11:10 am, the army said.
In that case, too, the military announced that it is following up on the issue of the violations with UNIFIL, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.
“Lebanon regularly files U.N. complaints over Israel’s near-daily land, air, and sea violations of Lebanese sovereignty,” reported Naharnet.
