A Saugus mom is facing trial in August on charges she raped twin brothers — one of them her daughter’s 15-year-old “off-and-on” boyfriend — after the other brother’s new accusations derailed her plan to plead guilty Friday in the first brother’s case.
Heather Salines, 39, pleaded not guilty yesterday to the new charges of aggravated rape of a child, indecent assault and battery and child enticement brought by a grand jury late Monday.
Prosecutors said the new accuser came forward 10 days ago. Court papers indicate he was 14 in February 2014 when the assault took place.
“My client was ready to take responsibility for the first set of indictments. We completely, uncategorically deny that anything happened with the second child,” Salines’ attorney, William Korman, told the Herald.
“We question the timing of this disclosure, which was approximately May 28 or so, a mere two weeks before my client was prepared to take a rather substantial guilty plea.
As far as we are aware there is absolutely no forensic evidence linking my client to anything involving the recently disclosed victim in any way, shape or form.”
The joined cases are due to go to trial Aug. 17.
Prosecutor Kate MacDougall agreed to let Salines remain free on the $7,500 cash bail she posted last year.
Salines, who left court without commenting, turned to the twins as she left the courtroom. A woman who was with the boys declined comment on their behalf.
The new charges are based on allegations of an incident that occurred a month before the alleged incident that prompted the original charges last year. MacDougall offered no details about what allegedly happened between Salines and the second twin.
In the first case, Salines told police she “lost herself” with the then-15-year-old, having sex in her car, bringing him to a Danvers hotel and sending him nude selfies. She told investigators the teen was her daughter’s “off-and-on” boyfriend.
