The NYPD is cracking down on four-wheeler racing in the Bronx — but at a price. A police officer was injured when a driver rammed him from behind. The driver is nowhere to be found.
ATVs are exploding in popularity, exemplified by rapper Meek Mill’s “Bike Life” video game in which players earn gold coins for outrunning cops. Cell phone video shows a four-wheeler and dirt bikes riding up First Avenue in Manhattan, right in the middle of regular traffic.
But Hunts Point Avenue in the Bronx has become a real speedway. On Saturday, a police officer riding a confiscated ATV was rammed from behind. Police believe George Fabian, 44, was the one who rammed the cop. Police said he is 6 feet 2 inches and about 220 lbs.
Police are actively patrolling Hunts Point Avenue, home to car repair shops and gentlemen’s clubs. Families also live along the avenue and children play in a park there. Some here are worried about safety for everyone crossing the street.
