Police are looking for a man they say sneaked inside a Brooklyn woman’s home while she was sweeping the street, tried to rob her when she came back inside, then raped her and held her hostage for hours when she said she didn’t have any money.
The woman was sweeping outside her home in Coney Island at about 1:40 a.m. Monday when the man, thought to be between 20 and 30, went in and waited, police say.
When the woman returned inside, the man tried to rob the woman at knifepoint. He held her hostage for several hours after learning she didn’t have money, then raped her at about 4 a.m.
After the attack, police say the suspect stole an umbrella and duffel bag full of clothes before leaving.
The woman was taken to Kings County Hospital after the attack. It’s not clear how badly she was injured.
The suspect was seen on surveillance cameras walking around the time of the rape.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-577-TIPS.
