A young Hasidic man who was severely beaten after leaving a bank in Outremont Thursday evening is in intensive care in hospital, Montreal police say.
The attacker, who police say is a white male in his 20s, was outside the bank at Van Horne and McEachran Aves. around 7:15 p.m. When the victim left the bank, he was beaten, choked and had an unknown liquid poured over him.
Nothing was stolen, and the attacker fled. The motive for the attack is still under investigation, Montreal police said on Friday.
A police canine unit searched the area on Thursday night to try to find a container for the liquid, however none was found.
Samples of the liquid found at the scene will be tested to determine what it is, the police said.
The victim, who is in his 20s, was conscious when he was taken to hospital, the Journal de Montréal reported. His condition worsened, however, it said.
The police say the suspect was wearing pale-coloured clothing.
