Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz lifted on Sunday an anticipated no-fly zone over Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli’s wedding, after public criticism about the initial directive.
Katz instructed the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to cancel the previous order, which had called for no-fly zone over the Carmel Forest during the wedding Thursday.
“The sky belongs to all the citizens of Israel,” said Katz, “and we will not give preference to this event over any other event.”
“We have to safeguard the equality provision for these permits,” he added.
The highest ranks of the CAA and the Israel Airports Authority (IAA) had initially issued last week’s official directive.
But the decision sparked public criticism. Private wedding devices, including helicopters to bring in the bride and groom and camcorders to record the event, will no longer be the only aircraft flying over the Carmel Forest during the celebration.
The flight ban would have been from September 24 at 5 in the evening until September 25 at 2 o’clock in the morning.
