A Code Red siren sounded in Ashdod and communities in Hof Ashkelon Regional Council on Wednesday shortly after 10:45pm. It was soon confirmed that one rocket had been fired, and that the Iron Dome system had shot it down.
No one was hurt. The rocket fire occurred a day before Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is to speak at the United Nations General Assembly.
The last time rockets were fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip was on September 21, when a rocket exploded in an open area in Hof Ashkelon. No one was hurt and no property was damaged.
A few days before that, a rocket exploded near a home in Sderot. The family wasn’t home and was unharmed, but their house was damaged, as was a bus parked close to it.
A few residents suffered from anxiety and were given treatment on the spot. A woman, 40, who complained about chest pains and ringing in her ears was brought to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon. Three hours later, another rocket was fired, toward Ashkelon, and intercepted by the Iron Dome system.
