A 21-year-old Monsey man faces charges of robbing a Mahwah, New Jersey, convenience store gas station and possessing more than 120 wax packages of heroin, police said.
David Mizrachi is accused of stealing $100 from the Mahwah Gulf Station on Route 17 at 7 p.m. Friday, Mahwah Chief James Batelli said.
Mizrachi allegedly first tried to steal merchandise after arriving in a Caravan cab and then scuffled with the manager, Batelli said.
He allegedly placed items on the counter with a bottle of water and produced a $100 bill, the chief said. After the manager questioned him about items he hid, Mizrachi took the items from his pocket with wax folds containing what was believed to be heroin, Batelli said.
After a scuffle, Mizrachi allegedly pushed the manager, grabbed the $100 bill and left the store, followed the manager, Batelli said.
“Mizrachi punched the manager before running off to McDonald’s,” Batelli said.
Three Mahwah officers found Mizrachi at the fast-food restaurant leaving a bathroom, where the officers found 124 wax folds of heroin, Batelli said. The officers also found Mizrachi possessed a hypodermic needle, he said.
Officers charged Mizrachi with robbery, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was ordered held in the Bergen County jail on $120,000 bail.
