Power entertainment lawyer Joel Katz, who’s repped Michael Jackson’s estate, as well as Justin Timberlake, Jimmy Buffett and Willie Nelson, had a deal fly under the radar recently his divorce from his wife of over 20 years, Kane.
Katz chairman of the global media and entertainment group at Greenberg Traurig, who’s an annual fixture on Billboard’s Power 100 list confirmed the split, “We have been divorced for almost a year.
Our new relationship is excellent as very good friends.” Kane also confirmed the breakup.
But while the 2015 divorce filing of the Atlanta couple escaped notice, it’s been the subject of wild speculation in the music business.
Multiple sources told us things had become so contentious over the past two years that Katz set up surveillance to keep tabs on his wife. But Kane, 58, said, “That’s not the case.”
During their marriage, Katz, 72, was cagey about how long the couple had actually been together, coyly quipping in 2011: “I don’t like to say how many years, exactly.” Records reveal they tied the knot in 1994.
A source said, “He’s not out in a social loop,” like his wife.
Katz did not comment on any alleged surveillance.
The power lawyer’s also worked with Troy Carter, who’s credited with launching Lady Gaga’s career, and was reportedly helping Scott Borchetta shop Big Machine Label Group, home to Taylor Swift.
