The tires of at least 11 Jewish-owned cars were slashed Friday night in the heart of the Jewish community in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn and cops suspect that this may have been an anti-Semitic act, police sources told TOT Sunday.
Police say they were called Saturday night at around 11 p.m. to 645 Lefferts Avenue, where a 62-year-old Jewish man reported that the tires of his vehicle were slashed sometime over shabbos.
Officers started checking around the street to determine whether there were other cars with slashed tires, and they found a total of 11. All of the vehicles were parked on Lefferts Avenue, the sources said.
There weren’t any anti-Semitic statements written on the cars, but since all of the cars are owned by Jewish men and the incidents took place in the center of the Jewish community in Crown Heights, investigators are suspecting that this may be a hate crime.
The Hate Crime Task Force Unit has been notified and is investigating the incident.
Crown Heights Shomrim found a surveillance video on Lefferts Avenue that showed a man in grey clothes, suspected to be the slasher, leaving the scene.
There are no other details on the suspect.
