A Brooklyn actress took her own life during a modeling trip to Peru, officials said Thursday.
Police in Lima, Peru found Lisa Lynn Masters, 52, dead inside her room at the Nuevo Mundo hotel at about 11:50 p.m. Tuesday, according to the newspaper Peru 21.
She was in the country on a modeling assignment, officials said.
Hotel employees found Masters dead in the hotel room closet, officials said. She hanged herself with her skirt.
Masters had roles in “Law & Order Special Victims Unit,” “Ugly Betty” and the movies “It’s Complicated” and “The Stepford Wives,” according to her IMDb account.
The actress had been struggling with depression, said officials, adding they found anti-depressants in her hotel room.
Masters’ friends are banding together to raise enough money to bring her back to the U.S. to be buried and to help her husband William Brooks.
“Lisa’s beloved husband William is shocked and grieving her sudden loss,” said friend Ani Mason, who put together a GoFundMe site to raise the $30,000 needed to return her body to the U.S. as well as funeral and other expenses. “Lisa’s genuine warmth, generosity and tenacious strength will be deeply missed.”
As of Thursday afternoon, more than $22,000 had been raised.
