An Israeli national was arrested on Wednesday at the El Dorado International Airport in Bogota after claiming he had a bomb, according to media reports in Colombia.
A search of his luggage found his threat was false and that he made it because he was angry his flight was delayed.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry said it was looking into the reports.
The Israeli boarded LATAM Airlines Group’s flight 3134 from Colombia’s capital Bogota to the city of Barranquilla, which was due to leave on time but got delayed by an hour and 40 minutes due to a technical issue with the plane.
After all of the passengers were on board, the Israeli reportedly stood up, threatened that he had a bomb and shouted: “We have to take off or I’ll activate the bomb.”
His shouting led the airlines to put all of its security protocols into action.
“The police boarded along with sniffer dogs and started checking the luggage of that man and of other passengers,” according to a senior in the South American airline.
According to media report, the Israeli is expected to be expelled from the country.
