A 27-year-old Michigan singer was mysteriously found dead in her home over the weekend and police have launched a murder investigation, according to reports on Sunday.
Egypt Covington’s lifeless body was discovered by a friend inside her Hull Road home in Belleville Friday night, FOX 2 reported.
Van Burn Township police responded to the home and are investigating. They have not yet said how she was killed, according to the station.
Covington was a local singer who had won Country Idol at Fraser’s Pub in Ann Arbor, the station reported. A vigil will be held at the pub on July 1 to celebrate her life.
Covington also worked at the Palmer House Bar and Grill, according to a post on their Facebook page.
“So stunned and saddened with the news that our Rave sales rep, Egypt Covington, was murdered in her home last night,” the post reads. “Thoughts and prayers for her and her family and friends. She was a beautiful and bright human being and touched many lives. I really don’t know what else to say.
on to the ones you love. Make sure they know how you feel about them every single day. Rest In Peace kid.”
Egypt’s father, Chuck Covington, called her “the example of being generous, being kind” and “the smile that lightens up the room.”
“People wanted to be around her because she lifted us up,” the distraught dad said. “And that’s gone now. That’s gone.”
He urged whoever was responsible to turn themselves in immediately.
“They’ll never able to walk, think, talk, hold their head up,” he said, “because of what they know they did.”
