NEW YORK – Pamela Gellar, the woman who organized a Prophet Muhammad cartoon contest in Texas where two people were shot dead, is being targeted by the Islamic State.
An online message from the terror group and posted to the NY Daily News website, says it has fighters across the United States ready to attack “any target we desire.”
ISIS said the New Yorker who heads an organization called the American Freedom Defense Initiative is taking aim at Gellar and want to show her “that we don’t care what land she hides in or why sky shields her. We will send all our lions to achieve her slaughter.”
Drawings or images of the Prophet Muhammad are considered highly offensive by Muslims.
Gellar, 56, and the American Freedom Defense Initiative use websites, books, ad campaigns and public events, to warn about the threat of radical Islam and its desire to destroy the U.S.
Gellar responded on her blog, PamelaGellar.com: “This threat illustrates the savagery and barbarism of the Islamic State. They want me dead for violating Sharia blasphemy laws. What remains to be seen is whether the free world will finally wake up and stand for the freedom of speech, or instead kowtow to this evil and continue to denounce me.”
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack in Garland, Texas over the weekend.
An audio statement on the extremist group’s Al Bayan radio station said that “two soldiers of the caliphate” carried out Sunday’s attack and promised to deliver more in the future.
The statement did not provide details and it was unclear whether the group was opportunistically claiming the attack as its own.
It was the first time the Islamic State, which frequently calls for attacks against the West, had claimed responsibility for one in the United States.
