Brooklyn, NY – Assault charges against an Orthodox Jewish man alleged to have participated in the gang beating of a gay black college student in Williamsburg in 2013 have been dismissed.
NYDAILYNEWS.com reports that prosecutors told a Brooklyn Supreme Court judge that “in the interest of justice” they were dismissing all charges again 27 year-old Joseph Fried.
Fried, who along with four other Hasidic men stood accused of brutally beating 24 year-old Taj Patterson in Williamsburg back in December of 2013, became the second defendant to have his charges dropped after the prosecution’s lone eyewitness recanted.
Former co-defendant Aharon Hollender, 29, had his charges dropped in March.
Fried’s attorney Susan Necheles said, “We are very happy the District Attorney did the right thing and dismissed the charges against an innocent person.”
