The Jerusalem District Court on Sunday sentenced to eight years in prison a disgraced former police officer who was convicted of leaking sensitive information in exchange for cash in a corruption scandal that rocked Israel’s law enforcement establishment.
Justice Ministry investigators yesterday asked Jerusalem District Court Judge Jacob Zaban to sentence former police officer Eran Malka to 10 years in prison for giving sensitive information to attorney Ronel Fisher so the latter could offer it to his clients in exchange for bribes.
A former very high-ranking officer in the Israel Police was called in for questioning Monday at the Police Investigations Department in Jerusalem as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption by attorney Ronel Fisher and former police superintendent Eran Malka.
The former police superintendent under suspicion in the bribery affair centering around attorney Ronel Fisher said on Monday he would not turn state’s witness in the case.
